Always, always, always hire a reputable home inspector … whether your potential home purchase is an oldie or a newbie. An old house can be a great buy. One upside to an older home, unlike a newer one, is that an old house has stood the test of time – earth shakes, repeated heavy weather conditions, settling and improvements by previous owners – can prove a house solid or not so solid. I used to live in a house that was over 100 years old – yes, it had your typical termite, dry rot repair items that many homes (even newer ones) may need over time. But our little old house, with all its simple charm, was still standing strong after more than 100 years.
